“Just In Case, We Have No Powerball Winner Tonight”
So, I have been receiving MANY emails from around the country about?
TONIGHTS POWERBALL LOTTERY DRAWING. . . .
Yes, most all my LinkedIn friends know I am in recovery from compulsive gambling addiction. I have heard many in Gamblers Anonymous and other gambling recovery support sites that many who are in recovery, and even those in very long-time recovery have let their recovery time go just to buy tickets to the Powerball drawing tonight. WTF?
That is just crazy to me knowing that the odds are so out of their favor! Current odds right now?
“News flash: Your chances of winning the Powerball jackpot are not great — just one in 292.2 million. Still, with the next drawing scheduled for Wednesday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time, ticket sales are going through the roof around the country.” (Courtesy of: NYTimes)
Just think what they are doing in Las vegas right now? Bookies are most likely taking BETS on all sorts of odds. Betting on is someone will tonight, who will win? How many people will have a winning ticket, or will it be just one person? There betting on ALL aspects of this lottery drawing. All that wasted money, and the amount of money spent on tickets since Saturday’s non-winner could most likely FEED THE WORLD once over.
This really hurts my heart. Now I know problem & addicted, or even recovering gamblers could care less about the outrageous odds of even winning, but buying just one ticket? Is it really worth giving away the hard work you have put into your recovery? Did anyone NOT think I would not say anything about this?
And NO, I have no ill will toward those who can gamble for the fun and entertainment value of gambling. HEY, we all DREAM Right?
And I don’t think gambling should be banned either, but for the recovering gambler? This can and IS causing relapses. That is what concerns me the most!
Some for those who are in recovery from gambling addiction? Let me remind you of what GA say’s about what constitutes gambling . . .
Definition of Gambling
GAMBLING, for the compulsive gambler, is defined as follows:
Any betting or wagering, for self or others, whether for money or not, no matter how slight or insignificant, where the outcome is uncertain or depends upon chance or ‘skill’ constitutes gambling . . .
